Billy Markus Reacts to Market Crash

As the cryptocurrency market faced intense selling pressure on Monday morning, one of the founders of Dogecoin, Billy Markus – known on social media as Shibetoshi Nakamoto – broke his silence with a humorous yet thought-provoking post. He shared an image that captured the attention of the Dogecoin community and others, presenting a comedic yet insightful take on the recurring cycles of the market.

The image featured four statements:

“Bear markets create strong memes.”

“Strong memes create bull markets.”

“Bull markets create weak memes.”

“Weak memes create bear markets.”

This tweet emerged at a time when optimism in the market had sharply declined, and most cryptocurrencies were affected by significant price fluctuations. Although Markus did not directly comment on the price drop, his post referenced the emotional cycle in bull and bear markets that often leads to drastic price movements.

The cryptocurrency market saw a substantial decline, with a massive sell-off occurring early Monday morning in Europe. Bitcoin's price plummeted below $75,000, causing losses for other major tokens to rise by about 20%. Ripple (XRP) and Solana (SOL) led the decline, both experiencing price drops of over 17% in the past 24 hours, breaching key support levels. Dogecoin also faced a setback, decreasing by 16% to reach $0.138.

In the hours leading up to the start of trading in Europe, tens of billions of dollars in market value were lost. This drop was influenced by macroeconomic concerns and a wave of extensive liquidations totaling $1.4 billion. According to CoinGlass data, cryptocurrency derivatives traders faced liquidations amounting to $1.4 billion, with long trades suffering the most, accounting for over $1.2 billion of the total, while short trades saw about $186 million liquidated.
